Bottlerock 2022 – Day 2 – Marc E. Bassy, Happy Fits, Chelsea Effect, Greensky Bluegrass, Delta Goodrem, Brothers Comatose, Black Crows, Rainbow Kitten Surprise and 21 Pilots

Notes for next time:

  • Temperature variation is much higher than we expected. It was much warmer one exit north at the Hotel Indigo, actually went back to dress warmer.
  • Even within the Bottlerock area, temperature varied greatly. We were happy to have some warmer clothes in the VIP area yesterday, the wind cooled it down quite a bit
  • No tables this year in the VIP Jam Cellar area, good thing we decided to not line up and make a run for them like in the previous years.
  • Get a locker! We didn’t have too much to Schlepp in our clear bag, but they would have gone in handy. They sold out fast in the VIP area.

Starting the day at Napkins Bar and Grill. Awesome cocktails – the Negroni with house bitters was awesome, and so was the Lychee Margarita.

We missed the Happy Fits – hear Shops things about their gig in the VIP Village Stage. Our first artist for today is Marc E. Baddy. Per bio, he „is a singer-songwriter, label head and Bay Area native currently working in Los Angeles. Bassy has made a name for himself as a songwriter and collaborator over the last decade – notable projects include his gold-certified “Morning” (2016) and the double-platinum single “You & Me” featuring G-Eazy,

Easy fun start of the day. He played something from his new project, Little Men,”blending his R&B/Pop sound with dance/funk of the 70’s and 80’s and fine-tuned vocal performance.“

Caught two songs of Silversun Pickups in the VIP Village stage, followed by the Chelsea Effect at the Jam Pad and Greensky Bluegrass from the lawn. Them bouncer over to see the Happy Fits which was the surprise of the day for us. What a fun energy and amazing stagecraft playing with audience at young age. See the video below:

Per Bio: „Turning a love for the Killers and Violent Femmes into their own compact pop songwriting, the New Jersey-based trio started as a casual summer project for high school friends Calvin Langman, Ross Monteith, and Luke Davis before going off to college.“

Off to a new act I didn’t know yet – „Delta Goodrem“ from down under. „Her first album, Innocent Eyes, topped the Australian, UK and Japanese charts and was one of the highest-selling debut albums in Australian history.“ Her voice was amazing! I will check her out more 🙂

Off to the VIP Village Stage for a brief but really fun set by „The Brothers Comatose.“ Really fun and energetic.

Ha! Secured seating at the village stage and cheated watching „The Crows“ streamed from the neighboring stage here. Fun!

The room is filling up for Rainbow Kitten Surprise. Per bio: „As if channeling another dimension where genres simply don’t exist, Rainbow Kitten Surprise find harmony in unpredictability, weaving together lyrical poetry, hummable melodies, and a rush of instrumental eccentricities.“ We heard the final song in their main-stage set when walking between stages. This should be fun!

Off to the main act – Twenty One Pilots. Really, really fun! Intertwined in their songs they brought in portions of Elton John‘s Benny & Tue Jets and a camp fire session including items like „Home.“ Really great!

We wanted to at least check out Snoop Dog & Westermore. That side of the festival definitely felt a lot more packed. Fun rhythms with a lot of cursing going on there. We returned to 21 Pilots to see their finish.

Closed a long but really, really fun day with Mediterranean food at Tarla together with friends from Bottlerock pasts. The Kebab brought me right back to my upbringing in Berlin and its Doner Kebab.
