Day 25 – Traveling back to the US. They were not kidding about delays!
9:10 At the UAL check in counter: Between a lady who says that her Expedia ticket was exchanged while upgrading her ticket and people discussing changed seats in planes for which the equipment was changed last minute, it takes 40 minutes for me to get though as fourth in line before I can do the 5 minute walk from United‘s counter in Hall B to the entrance of the security line at Terminal Z.
9:55 At security line Z, switching at 10:15 to the coach line after an official swivels the sign separating the gold track and declares that there is no business line anymore. The upstairs entry is full, allegedly, too.
11:18 In the Senator Lounge
12:30 At Gate Z20. The team talks about downgrading people from business class, so I am mentally giving up on my upgrade (2nd on the list) and get some more steps in.
Boarding starts pretty punctual at 12:45, I am settled pretty fast. 70% wear masks. Good! Two standbys from a later flight get pulled through all the way to business. Some delay in sorting luggage outside, and then another plane blocking us. The app shows us leaving the gate at 2:30, we are on the air around 3:15. looks like we are making up some of the 1h 40 min delay.
