Day 2 (or Ground Hog Day 1)
We manage a 10 am touchdown in FRA, the boarding of my connecting flight is at 11:15 am. We are parking at remote location at 10:09 and we‘ll be getting to the terminal using busses. My bus departs at 10:22. Mask ratio 1:1. My transfer to the (separately ticketed) connection should be safe for me, but I am taking bets on whether my luggage makes it. Good thing that I have three day essentials in my carry on luggage.

Terminal drop 10:31, no line at the automated terminal for EU residents and I am in the Senator lounge by 10:40. Much better breakfast than on the plane, and it allow to extend sleep to when they ping you for the descent of the plane. My flight to Berlin boards at 11:15 sharp and we do get the FRA bus-tour again to get the plane parked at an external position. I wonder whether this is the most efficient way to do this, but not too much. Luggage is on my mind. The United app happily confirms that my bags arrived in EWR at 3:28 local time, but – sadly – does not confirm that my bag was ever loaded onto the flight to Frankfurt. I confirm twice with actual humans, both in the lounge and at the gate, that my bag is in the system. Fingers crossed!
Well, that did not work. My suitcase is still in Newark, apparently. The very friendly, attentive, yellow-vested gentleman helping me is happy that I am willing to pick up my suitcase.
Fun evening with my family in the house I grew up. FaceTime is great. In-person is sooooo much better. At one point the online tracking system for my lost luggage switches from “we are searching fir your luggage” to “Your luggage has been collected.” Oops. That’s weird. I am calling the Lufthansa line for tracking, and I am told “yep, we have your luggage, gave it to the delivery team and they will contact you before they arrive”. The response to my “but, as indicated in the system I am happy to pick up my luggage because the other agent’s comment that it would take up to four days for the team to deliver it did not sound all that appealing” was a simple “sorry, Sir, it is out of our hands, the delivery team has it.”
