Wagner in Bayreuth 2023

I was very fortunate to get – for the first time in my life, ever – tickets for the Ring Cycle in Bayreuth and am throwing in Parsifal for good measure. Why see only four operas in a week if you can see five? 😉

In the run-up to this year, Valentin Schwartz‘s production was very controversial. Unsurprisingly, at the end of Rheingold we had one immediate „boo“ but the rest of us ended up trampling in excitement. For sure, the cast’s voices and Pietaro Inkinen’s music leadership were out-of-this-world amazing. Thomasz Konieczny is my new favorite Wotan already (Sorry Michael Volle, I still love you too), and I am looking forward to Andreas Schager taking the stage as Siegfried on Thursday.

Here are some teaser pictures from Rheingold and Walkuere as I am preparing for Parsifal on Wednesday. I may not be able to experience the Augmented Reality – only about 300 seats have it – so the tech geek in me is a bit sad, but who can complain when attending an event like this. Stay tuned for more during the week and afterward.
