2024 Edinburgh Fringe

It’s my second Fringe and this time I am enjoying it with my brother. After some family time and culinary experiences in London and Berlin, we have arrived!

Day 1

Courtesy of European flight delays, we managed to miss our first show – sniff – “Shamilton, The improvised Hip Hop Musical.

Cyrano

We loved it! What a great start to our our Fringe experience.

It’s always great to see the creator play herself! And Roxanne was interacting with us pre-show regarding a poem. Both were outstanding!

We then had tickets to Salty Brine, “The Annie Lennox” show. It was interesting, albeit Annie Lennox was not as prominently featured as we hoped. If we just had read the full poster’s comment “A STORY ABOUT STRONG, DEFIANT WOMEN AND THE LITTLE GAY BOY WHO LOVES THEM,” we would have been better prepared. The reviews from previous productions were great.

We sat stage right at a table for two and felt that some of the audio was imbalanced. Interesting storyline, not as much Annie Lennox as we expected.

Insane Magic After Hours!

Definitely for after hours …

Insane Magic was the last show of the day for us (at 23:00!). Some fun parts. Definitely do NOT bring your children if you do not want them to know more about the male anatomy than they really need to know.

Day 2

We slept in. The Old Waverley is located across the main train station and does not have air conditioning in our room, but still we slept great!

10,000 Hours

10 out of 10! What an amazing show and start for the second day!

The Black Blues Brothers

Another great pick – amazing acrobatics!

The cast of Black Blues Brothers

… a power outage!

Next we made it one minute late to Dante and the Robot. It was probably the only Fringe show starting on time 🙂 we did not get in. Sad face.

Some shows were affected but everybody took it easy and just had a pint. Street performances at Royal Lane did proceed. Like this one, maybe not quite suitable for children but definitely impressive body work:

Shamilton – The Improvised Hip Hop Musical

The area around George’s Square was quite impacted by the power outage, so Shamilton started late. At 18:40 we were still outside for a 18:20 start time. 19:05 the line moved inside.

What a great show! Out of De Buren, Mary Queen of Scots, one we forgot and RuPaul, RuPaul was the obvious choice. The improvisation that followed, was quite stunning and definitely worthy of “Love, Freestyle, Supreme.”

RuPaul was juxtaposed via JK Rowling – pre and post 2018. Trixie Matell was prominently featured, so were H&M and fracking. All very clever and fun to watch.

Big fun!

The cast of Cyrano!

The Edinburgh Tatoo

Amazing. What an experience. Had an almost always fainting and constantly narrating female fan club behind us, but that could not diminish the fantastic experience.
