To me, having seen it in 1995 when it opened and then later during it’s revival somewhere around 2009 – need to look up the program – I was looking forward to it‘s latest incarnation during the London leg of my European Christms/New Year‘s getaway.
No disappointment anywhere – what an evening!

Reviewing the reviews
Most of the reviews were positive. Opening Night‘s Matthew Forrest captures my sentiment best:
Visually it looks stunning as Bourne’s exceptionally choreography moulds perfectly with long-time collaborator Lez Brotherston’s gorgeous swan costumes. It’s as intense as it is captivating. For me the greatest trick Bourne pulls is how accessible his ballets are and Swan Lakeis no different.
The Arts Desk‘s Helen Hawkins aptly calls her Review „30 years on, as bold and brilliant as ever – A masterly reinvention has become a classic.“ I couldn’t agree more!
The Stage‘s Siobhan Murphy was pretty tough giving it only 3 of 5 stars and titling the review „Needs Revivifying.“ I beg to differ. To me, while the shock effect of an all male swan cast has probably ebbed, I find it as amazing and provocative as ever.
